Turkey Maze Series

The two series of drawings, Turkey Mazes and Unraveled Sweaters were made in the aftermath of September 11. I learned that before the American Eagle was selected as the symbol for the United States, Benjamin Franklin had chosen the turkey to be our national bird. I found a maze in the image of a turkey in a children's activity book and then proceeded to manipulate it in the copy machine until it was no longer visible, but an almost totally black field of marks. I then made drawings from these prints by methodically dipping a pen in ink to create each line. These were done as a form of meditation while listening to the news reports on NPR.
